Actually, we planned to cross a mountain region (Tauern) in the Alps from North to South. But unfortunately, the weather forecast was not promising. Therefore, our plans changed. First, we spent two nights in Triest, and after that, we had a short hiking tour in the Carnic Alps close to Plöcken Pass.
Concerning Trieste. I already have been in this town for some hours in the mid-90s when my family was heading for holidays in Greece. However, I have to admit that I remember Trieste as a grey town with only a few – but also grey – beautiful building on the main square close to the harbor. Coming back to Triest after that many years keeps me being astonished. Trieste is a charming city! It is worth visiting!
After a great time in Trieste, we headed back to Austria. Our two-day hiking tour started close to Plöcken Pass. The weather was cloudy, rainy, and wet. The view was limited, but we had a great time hiking up to Wolayersee mountain hut. We had a great time together, the food was delicious, and the hut staff was amicable. The next day we hiked back to Plöcken Pass on the Italian side having good weather and view.
