Today morning we went by train from Mödling to Angern/March. After crossing river March with a cable ferry, we were riding our bikes towards south along the Eurovelo 13 “Iron Fence.” Just after an hour, I had a flat front wheel. We took the opportunity and grabbed a drink while fixing the tire.
On our tour, we passed by Marchegg on the Slovakian side of the river. Close to Schlosshof, we took a look at the new pedestrian/bike bridge. But, as we wanted to go to Bratislava, we just made it to the middle; the Slovakian-Austrian boarder.
The next kilometers took us from Devínska Nová Ves – along the foot of the sand mountain Devínska Kobyla – to Devín Castle. On this part of the trip, we needed to concentrate a little more on riding our bikes, as the track has some sudden humps.
Some minutes later, at Devín Castle, it was time for a more extended break. We enjoyed the river March joining the Danube and the view of the castle, which is on a small rock. After some relaxing moments, we went for lunch in the vicinity of the castle. There we enjoyed Slovakian beer, the soft drink Kofola, and delicious food.
Afterward, we continued cycling towards Bratislava where we visited the inner city. Before taking the train back home, we enjoyed some cake, coffee, and – of course – beer.
