Hiking with granny

It has been a sportive weekend. Yesterday, we were out for an 85 km bicycle ride. Today, we were hiking Rax mountain with my grandmother. It was our first hike together with granny and her first hike since long.
We went up to the Rax mountain plateau by cable car. From there we continued to Otto Haus (a mountain hut) where we stopped for a short rest and a refreshing drink. Now, we were looking forward to climbing the Jakobskogel summit. While leaving the sun flooded terrace, I realized that one of my shoes was falling apart. The boots have been with me since 2004 when I went on my first Interrail trip. So I had to step back and send Anke and granny alone to the summit. The fun fact of this story is that my grandfather’s hiking shoes – which fit me – were in the car down in the valley. I inherited them in the morning only.

After Anke and granny returned, we had a delicious lunch at the mountain hut. Then it was time to go down again. Luckily the weather was terrific, as I had to walk barefoot! It was an exciting experience – which I must not repeat ;)

On our way home, we made a short stopover in Reichenau to grab an ice cream.
